Seeking publication for: The Haunting of Ingersull Penitentiary
The former Ingersull Penitentiary is being remodeled into a bed and breakfast named The Big House Inn. A wandering Ouija Board, a possessed electric chair, and shadow people could play tricks on a person's psyche. The owner Hailey Price and the guests will check in, but will they check out? They soon discover that residual haunts are the least of their problems.
Excerpt: (Hailey practicing her tour speech in the prison lobby.)
Hailey cleared her throat. "Ingersull Penitentiary was built in eighteen-forty-two. The word penitentiary means to be repentant, and the cathedral style ceilings of the prison were chosen to inspire inmates to be better people. Although, the penitentiary entrance and lobby are of exquisite architectural design, before prison reform and in its heyday, the conditions at Ingersull Penitentiary were deplorable."
The sound of scraping turned Hailey's attention toward the desk. The temperature seemed to drop twenty degrees in the spacious lobby, and the hair at the back of her neck prickled. Somehow, the Ouija Board that was placed in the drawer, now sat on top of the walnut registration desk. Hailey searched the lobby praying to discover someone, anyone, that could be playing a trick on her.
She scanned the room.
Nothing. No one.
The scraping sound began again. The planchette of the Ouija Board moved about the board on its own. With her legs feeling like concrete pillars, Hailey watched the planchette spell the rest of its message one letter at a time...
ETOUT
Her breathing came in short puffs as she watched the planchette continue to scrape against the game board.
GETOUT
Hailey's eyes were magnetized to the planchette, and she jumped at the blast of a siren as an alarm sounded. Abandoning the Ouija Board she hustled across the lobby to the bullet proof guard booth, and checked the circuit board. The sounding alarm flashed a red light identifying a problem in the death row corridor.
